Upgrade your vehicle's electrical system with Allied Wire & Cable’s high-performance SGX wire. Engineered for superior durability and reliability, SGX wire is perfect for heavy-duty automotive and truck applications. With excellent resistance to heat, abrasion, and chemicals, this wire ensures optimal performance and longevity.

SGX cables are a type of battery cable with cross-linked insulation, typically used in automotive applications, yet their properties make them versatile for other industries as well. Not only are they useful in battery grounds, but SGX cable can also be used for automotive starters. This battery cable has a temperature range of -40°C to +125°C and a voltage rating of 50V, making it ideal for work in an engine compartment of an automobile because of its high heat tolerance. SGX wire has a single-stranded copper conductor with cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation. Our SGX cable comes in multiple different sizes as well as two colors, red and black. All gauges of SGX meet the requirements for SAE J-1127. Allied Wire and Cable also provides many value-added services for SGX wire, including custom printing and striping.

SGX Cable Specifications

What are SAE J1127 Standards?

According to SAE International, the SAE J1127 Standard covers low voltage battery cable intended for use at a nominal system voltage of 60 VDC (25 VAC) or less in surface vehicle electrical systems. The tests are intended to qualify cables for normal applications with limited exposure to fluids and physical abuse.

Type SGX Cable Applications:

SGX wire is ideal for heavy-duty automotive and truck applications, providing robust performance in challenging environments. It is commonly used in battery cables, starter wires, and grounding applications, ensuring reliable power distribution and connection for trucks, tractors, RVs, boats, buses, lift trucks, and cars. Its high resistance to heat and abrasion makes it suitable for use in high-stress areas where other wires might fail.

Type SGX Cable Construction:

SGX wire is constructed with a bare copper conductor, known for its excellent electrical conductivity and corrosion resistance, making it especially well-suited for grounding applications. The conductor is insulated with cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), which provides superior thermal and chemical resistance. XLPE insulation can withstand higher temperatures and is highly resistant to chemicals, making it ideal for industrial and outdoor environments. SGX wire is available in stranded battery circuit colors of black and red for standardized wire identification, with an option for custom printing. It comes in various gauges from 4/0 to 6, catering to different application needs.

Type SGX Cable Features:

SGX wire offers a range of features making it ideal for demanding automotive and industrial applications. It can be used for automotive starters or battery grounds where resistance to abrasion, acids, alkalis, coolant, diesel fluid, ethanol, flame, gas, ozone, power steering fluid, oil, transmission fluid, heat, and aging is required. SGX wire meets the requirements of SAE J-1127 and the battery cable requirements of UL 558 and UL 583. Additionally, it has a recommended temperature range of -40°C to +125°C, ensuring reliable performance in extreme conditions.
