Transit wire and cables need to be able to withstand extreme conditions and still function properly to ensure safety. Transportation systems require reliable cable and wiring to keep running properly.
Since these wires and cables need to meet many specifications for use, they need to be Low Smoke and Zero Halogen (LSZH) cables. This means that jacketing and insulation materials must produce low smoke and non-toxic halogen emissions when exposed to fire or hire temperatures. Many transit applications require more than just LSZH cables, and designing a custom cable is often the most practical and cost-effective way to ensure safety and reliability.
Our Custom Transit Cable Solution
Many customers in the transit industry have come to us when looking for ways to simplify their installation time of three separate cables in their trains and buses. Typically the wires they were installing included one power cable, one ignition wire, and a Cat5e-shielded communication cable with heat shrink tubing encasing all three components on their transportation vehicles. These customers were looking for one cable that incorporated all three cables, so Allied assisted them in designing a custom composite transit cable for their application.
Having specific cables in mind for their custom composite cable, the customer worked closely with us to get exactly what they needed. UL1007/1569 was used for the power and ignition wire substitutes and another shielded Cat5 Patch Cable Being used in public trains and buses, the jacket on this cable needed to be low-smoke zero-halogen (LSZH).
Because these customers typically knew exactly what they needed, the design process was simple; Allied Wire and Cable and our design partners were able to further simplify their cable by color-coding their power and ignition wires for easy identification.
