What is SXL Wire?
SXL wire is a cross-linked automotive primary wire. It is designed for use as general circuit wiring in engine compartments and other high-temperature applications. This type of wire features a stranded bare copper conductor and cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation.
The cross-linked polyethylene insulation has a standard wall or thickness. This gives SXL wire excellent resistance to high temperatures and abrasion. The stranded bare copper conductor gives this cable the flexibility to be used in small spaces. Allied Wire and Cable offers SXL automotive primary wire in gauge sizes 20 AWG to 8 AWG. All of our primary wires are available in various spool sizes.
SXL Wire Specifications
SXL automotive wire has a temperature range of -51°C to 125°C and a voltage rating of 50V. This wire remains flexible in colder temperatures as well. The thicker XLPE insulation makes this cable ideal for use in applications where high temperatures and abrasion are a concern. Our SXL wire meets SAE J-1128, Ford M1L-85A, and Chrysler MS-5919 specs.
Other Cross-Linked Automotive Primary Wires
SXL wire is one of the many cross-linked primary wires we carry. Allied Wire and Cable also offers TXL and GXL wire. All cross-linked primary wires feature cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation. All of our cross-linked primary wires meet SAE-J1128 but have varying Chrysler and Ford approvals. We also offer PVC primary wires, including GPT, TWP, and HDT.
Type TXL Wire has the thinnest wall/insulation thickness of all the cross-linked primary wires. It is ideal for use as general circuit wiring in small spaces where high temperatures are a concern. This type of wire meets Chrysler MS-8288 and Ford M1L-123A specs. TXL Wire is also available in 22 AWG to 8 AWG, whereas the smallest size available for SXL and GXL wire is 20 AWG.
Type GXL wire also has a thin wall/insulation thickness. It is most commonly used in engine compartments of trucks and trailers. However, it is suitable for use in many automotive applications. This wire meets Ford M1L-85B and Chrysler MS-8900 specs. You can learn more about the differences between SXL and GXL wire here.
Value-Added Services
All of our automotive primary wires can be customized with value-added services to make identification easy. Popular value-added services include adding up to three stripes (also known as tracers) for wires used in wire harnesses. Jacketing can also be printed with custom text, numbers, and even company logos! With our variety of value-added services and spool sizes, we're sure to have the perfect wire for your next automotive application.
