TXL wire is a thin-wall, single-conductor wire with cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation. It is a primary wire for automotive applications, often used where small outer diameter and lightweight are needed. TXL wire has a 50V voltage rating and a temperature range of -51C to +125C, making it suitable for use in applications exposed to a wide range of temperatures. These wires come in a wide range of gauge sizes and are often available as small as 22 AWG. While TXL wire is very diverse, sometimes a custom wire is needed.

Our Custom TXL Wire Solution

One customer in the automotive industry reached out to Allied Wire and Cable to help design a custom TXL wire. Our custom automotive cable experts worked closely with the customer and were able to design and manufacture a TXL wire that perfectly matched the needs of the application.

For this application, one conductor would not provide enough power. Instead, four thin wall TXL wires with 20 AWG conductors were combined under cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation. This extra power ensured the longevity of the application. It also had to meet various specifications, including the SAE J-1128 spec. The SAE J-1128 standard covers low voltage primary wires designed for use in electrical systems.

One of the largest customizations for this cable was the colors used. The wires were all insulated with different colors-- red, green, blue, and black. They were then combined under a black jacket.
