What is Trailer Cable?
Trailer cable is an automotive wire most commonly used for towing vehicles, trailers, and other heavy equipment. This wire supplies power to a trailer's lights, including taillights, brake lights, and turn signals. Trailer Cable is integral to the trailer connector safety system of any towing application.
Trailer Cable Construction
Trailer Cable consists of stranded copper conductors insulated by a PVC jacket. The conductors in trailer wiring are also color-coded for easier identification and installation. Trailer wiring is available in multiple conductor counts. Some constructions feature two or more groups of conductors gathered together under one jacket. At Allied Wire and Cable, we use premium grade PVC jacketing that protects the wire from environmental factors. Our heavy-duty trailer wiring provides resistance to weather, oil, abrasion, and grease. We offer trailer cable in a wide range of gauge sizes, from 16 AWG to 8 AWG. Gauge sizes 8 AWG and 10 AWG are only available in composite constructions with multiple gauge sizes.
Trailer Cable Specifications
Like many other automotive wires, trailer wiring is a low voltage cable. Most trailer wiring has a voltage rating of 60V or less and a temperature range of -50°C to +80°C.
Trailer Cable Applications
Trailer wiring is mainly used for connecting trailer lights to another vehicle. However, it is suitable for use in other automotive circuit breakers that do not exceed its maximum voltage and temperature ratings. Since trailer wiring is designed for heavy-duty use, it is ideal for applications that require resistance to abrasion and weather.
Other Types of Automotive Wire
In addition to trailer wiring, Allied Wire and Cable supplies automotive wires like brake cable, car speaker wire, fusible links, battery cable, and primary wire. Our Battery Cable options include SGT, SGX, and STX wire. We carry both PVC and cross-linked primary wires, including GPT and TXL Wire. Do you have more questions about Trailer Cable?
